Called at nine on a Sunday night because the living room filled with smoke. Someone was here before eleven, found a bird's nest wedged in the flue, and cleared it out. I did not expect anyone to pick up, let alone turn up.

Thorough is the word. They ran a camera down the liner and showed me the cracked section on a tablet before quoting anything at all. No pressure either way. We had it relined and the draft is night and day.

Escrow needed a chimney inspection at short notice and they turned it round in two days with a proper written report. The buyer's agent came back with no follow-up questions.

Rebuilt a crown that had basically turned to gravel, then sealed the brick. Two winters of rain since and the ceiling stain has not come back once.

Twenty years in this house and nobody had ever swept the thing. Drop cloths went down everywhere and honestly I could not tell afterwards that anyone had been in the room.

Straight answers. Told me the gas insert was fine and only wanted its burner cleaned, when the last outfit had tried to sell me a whole new unit. Priced fairly too.

Craftsman house, original 1912 firebox, and they treated it like it mattered. Repointed the firebrick rather than pushing me toward an insert. That is rarer than it should be.

Our chimney has had a lean since long before we bought the place. They explained what was structural and what was cosmetic, braced and rebuilt the top third, and did not try to sell us the whole stack.
