Santa Monica is the one part of our service area where the ocean sets the agenda. Salt-laden air is aggressively corrosive to every metal component on a chimney, and the effect is not subtle: caps, spark arrestors, chase covers, dampers and flashing all fail years earlier here than they do ten miles inland. Where we find that, the answer is a wind-directional cap rather than anything done to the chimney itself.
